How warm is the ocean water?

Answer

Ocean City’s Atlantic water is typically coolest in late winter and early spring, then warms through summer. Comfortable swimming is most common from mid-to-late summer into early fall, with big year-to-year swings.

June can still feel chilly for some guests; late July through early September is usually the warmest window. Bay water in Isle of Wight can feel different from the ocean beach on the same day—don’t assume one number covers both.

Use sea surface temperature maps and recent buoy/NWS marine products for the week you visit, plus Beach Weather for surf and wind that change how “warm” feels in the wash.
