Know Your Zone FAQs

What is Know Your Zone in Ocean City?
It is the Town’s way of helping residents, owners, and visitors identify zone and division for their property based on location and flood/evacuation vulnerability. Look up your hotel or condo address on the official Town page before storm season—not after a watch is already up.
Is a flood inundation zone the same as an evacuation zone?
No. Town guidance treats flood inundation risk and evacuation orders as related but different. Follow official evacuation phases and routes when issued; do not invent a “my flood zone means I stay” plan against Town or state orders.
Should vacation renters bother looking this up?
Yes if you visit in tropical season or own/manage a condo. Guests should know their building’s address, inland Route 50 departure habits, and where Town messaging will appear. Property managers often already know the zone—ask them too.
Where else should I confirm Maryland-wide zones?
Maryland also promotes KnowYourZoneMd.com for state hurricane-evacuation awareness. Use it alongside Town of Ocean City Emergency Management pages—not instead of local orders when you are already on the island.
