Ocean City Beach Patrol · Ocean City, Maryland

What happens when thunderstorms approach guarded beaches?

Answer

Beach Patrol clears the water and often the open sand when lightning threatens—whistles and announcements move faster than dark clouds inland. Do not re-enter until guards give an all-clear; summer cells pass quickly but unpredictably. Umbrellas and metal chairs should be lowered when thunder is audible.
