Answer
Maryland’s state reptile lives in brackish Coastal Bays and marshes around Isle of Wight Bay and Assawoman Bay—not on open ocean beach. Kayakers and anglers sometimes spot them basking or crossing causeways in spring. Never take terrapins from the wild; road crossings are a major mortality source—report injured animals to trained responders.
