The Open brands itself the world’s largest and richest billfish tournament. Homepage field snapshot: 334 boats chasing an estimated $9.9 million. You do not need a ticket to watch weigh-ins.

Free Harbour Island weigh-ins

All fish must be weighed on the official scale at Harbour Island (14th Street & the Bay), 4:00–9:15 PM each fishing day. Open to the public free of charge—suspense builds as the week goes on.

MarlinFest at the Inlet

Listed 11:00 AM–9:00 PM Aug 3–8 with live music, food and drinks, vendors, merch, and a livestream of the weigh-ins. Confirm pet/alcohol rules on marlinfest.com and bring ID for alcohol service.

Dawn send-offs

Local tradition: crowds cheer boats toward the sea buoy before lines out. Stay clear of working docks and give tournament traffic room.

Open to all anglers

Organizers emphasize no age restrictions—novices and juniors have won major awards. Optional skill levels let teams choose purse exposure.

Practical visitor tips

  • Book lodging and marina slips months ahead—Tournament Week compresses West OC, Harbour Island, and inlet corridors.

  • Recreational charters should avoid competing with lines-out and return windows—ask captains about WMO week availability.
  • Bring a zoom camera for evening scales; phone snapshots struggle with crowds and lighting.
  • Confirm every fee, Calcutta, and species rule against the live 2026 packet—marketing pages and entry copy can lag edition numbers.
  • Pair with lodging, marinas, and parking guides—Harbour Island and Inlet corridors jam after 4:00 PM.
  • Merch: WMO apparel · White Marlin Bourbon notes on the official bourbon page.
