Trains through vacation—Boardwalk runs, bay paddles, and finding a real workout when the hotel gym is two dumbbells.
Complete profile
I’m Aisha Bennett. Washington, D.C. Physical therapist by trade, recreational racer by hobby, Ocean City visitor by necessity when the Mid-Atlantic humidity demands a coastline and my training plan says “find flat ground or suffer.”
I’m a regular visitor—not local, not second-home. I come for long weekends and training blocks that still feel like vacation. I’ll drag friends on sunrise miles and still show up for dinner without apologizing for the fries. Balance isn’t a TED Talk. It’s a schedule that includes sweat and soft-serve.
Why Ocean City
I love a Boardwalk that doubles as a track, a bay that forgives average paddling, and the permission to work out and eat fries without performing guilt for an audience. OC gives you real mileage, real water, and real heat—which means my advice is honest about July, not written from an air-conditioned fantasy.
What I dislike: hotel “fitness rooms” that are basically laundry closets with two dumbbells and a broken fan. Midday heat bravery—the kind that lands people in my clinic back home. Fitness advice that ignores humidity, sand, and the fact that you’re on vacation with people who didn’t sign up for your 5 a.m. tempo run.
I also dislike the idea that active trips have to be miserable to count. Move your body. Then reward it. That’s the whole program.
Who I am
D.C. to OC is our escape rhythm: drive down, unpack, decide whether Saturday is a long Boardwalk loop or a bay paddle day. My friends know I’ll find a route. My family knows I’ll still sit on the beach afterward without turning it into a workshop.
As a PT, I think about bodies kindly—warm-up, hydration, when to swap the run for a bike ride because your knees are arguing. I’m not your doctor. I’m the friend who knows what heat does to a pace and won’t judge you for walking the last mile.
What I write here
- Boardwalk training that leaves room for fries - sunrise miles, heat pacing, and vacation balance.
- Bay paddle morning for runners on vacation - low-impact cross-training when conditions cooperate.
They are two versions of the same D.C. athlete rule: move with the weather, keep it vacation-sized, and save enough energy for the beach and dinner.
How I write
Energetic. Encouraging. Sweaty-honest about heat. Lists you can follow on the boardwalk before coffee fully kicks in. I link hubs for the map work: fitness, biking, water sports, surfing, and sports when your trip mixes teams, tournaments, and beach time.
I write for people who don’t want to lose a training week—but also don’t want to be the person who makes everyone else miserable with a color-coded workout spreadsheet. You can do both. I’ve done both.
If you’re a runner, rider, paddler, or “I brought my sneakers and I intend to use them” traveler: hi. Let’s move, then let’s eat. Ocean City has room for both.
