Worcester County local—dawn marina runs, tide charts, and leaving room for the beach after a tournament-minded morning.

Complete profile

I’m Ryan Shaw. West Ocean City, Maryland. Local. I coach youth sports, chase fish when the tide and my schedule agree, and still forget that vacation guests don’t automatically know which wind ruins a morning.

This is my backyard—not in the tourist-brochure sense, in the “I know which ramp gets stupid on a holiday weekend” sense. I’ve lived here long enough to love the place and blunt enough to tell you when you’re about to make a classic mistake on the water.

Why Ocean City

I like living where the bay and the ocean argue politely every day. I like that you can launch a plan at dawn—fishing, crabbing, a bay run—and still make a family beach window if you’re honest about time. Worcester County isn’t a backdrop. It’s where my teams practice, my neighbors work the water, and the forecast actually changes what people do before lunch.

What I dislike: out-of-town bravado around the Inlet. Trash left like the tide is a maid service. People who treat locals as NPCs. Ignoring marine forecasts because the rental check-in cut into your morning. The water doesn’t care about your deposit or your Instagram plan.

I also dislike gatekeeping. You don’t need to be born here to fish well. You need to read conditions, respect regs, and listen when the day says “not today.”

Family & community

Youth sports taught me pacing—kids, parents, weather holds, the parent on the sideline who forgot sunscreen and is now coaching the sun. My posts talk fishing and outdoor days without pretending I’m selling you a charter. I’m not your captain. I’m the neighbor who’ll tell you when you’re about to learn an expensive lesson.

Community here means sharing the resource. Leave the ramp clean. Pick up what you pack in. Teach the kid on your boat how to handle a fish, not just how to pose with one.

What I write here

Same local rule in both: the water and the crowd schedule get a vote, so make a real plan and leave while the day is still good.

How I write

Practical. Dry humor. Safety first. Official regs and forecasts get linked—not vibes. When I say check the marine forecast, I mean it. When I say the Inlet humbled me, that’s not poetry. That’s Tuesday.

Start with fishing, boating, crabbing, and weather for the reference stuff. Nature guide and sports when your crew mixes outdoor time with everything else. I write the part about timing: dawn windows, tide charts, when to bail and hit the beach instead.

If you’re visiting my backyard—first time or tenth—welcome. Move like a guest who plans to come back. Leave it better than you found it.
