I’m Morgan Hale. Pittsburgh. Supply chain analyst who somehow became the person friends text about campsite reservations, cooler strategy, and whether “we’ll just wing it” is a plan (it is not a plan). I’m a traveler and a camping convert—which means I love sleeping outside and I respect the hotel night that saves a trip.

Ocean City weekends from western Pennsylvania are a logistics network: drive time, gear, weather, fees, sleep quality, and the moment someone asks for air conditioning like it’s a human right. Sometimes Assateague camping is the point. Sometimes an Ocean City hotel base is the smarter system. I write so you pick on purpose.

Why Ocean City / Assateague

I love that you can build two different trips in one region: nature-first camping with Boardwalk energy nearby, or OC-first lodging with Assateague as a day trip. Public beach access, real habitats, and enough restaurants that a bad cook night isn’t a crisis—if you planned the base correctly.

What I dislike: romanticizing camping while underpacking for wind, sand, and mosquitoes. Booking a campsite because it looked pretty online and then discovering nobody in the group wanted pit toilets. Treating hotel resort fees as optional reading. Spontaneous weekend packing that forgets the one thing that makes sleep possible.

My day job is flow and constraints. Vacation is the same puzzle with more sand. Reservations, packing lists, exit timing, weather gates, and the honest question: is the campsite the experience, or is it friction between you and the beach?
