Baltimore, MD Ocean City local HVAC tech by day; tap-list hobbyist by night
Reads a tap list like a box score. Honest about sports-bar food, local pours, and when “craft” is just a sticker.
Complete profile
I read a tap list the way some people read a box score: not because I need it to be complicated, but because the details tell you whether somebody is paying attention. I am an HVAC tech by day, a tap-list hobbyist by night, and a restaurant and dining reviewer for Beach Blog whenever a burger, wing basket, or local pour needs an honest look.
West OC suits me. It has working-day energy, places where a good beer program can coexist with a no-nonsense meal, and enough variety that “sports bar” is not really a useful verdict on its own. I moved down from Baltimore for work and stayed for the Shore. My teenage son keeps my wing opinions honest, which is probably healthy for both of us.
What has to work
Beer should be fresh, clearly labeled, and served in clean glassware. That is the floor, not beer-geek snobbery. I love a great local IPA, but I will defend a clean pilsner all day if it is the better pour. Craft is a practice, not a font choice.
The food gets the same treatment. A burger should survive the walk from the kitchen to the table. The bun should not surrender immediately. Wings need a fair count, a sensible price, and sauce or dry rub that has some balance. Nachos should reach the table still behaving like a shared plate, not a pile of chips somebody described from another room.
I spend a lot of time in the territory covered by food and drink, Ocean City restaurants, and nightlife: brewpubs, casual bars, burger spots, game-day rooms, and the places people pick after a long day. I will tell you whether the TV glare is manageable, whether you can still have a conversation, and whether the tap list deserves the attention it is asking for.
Local rhythm, not gatekeeping
I know Bike Week energy, Cruisin’ crowds, and the weeks when White Marlin Open can make certain bars feel like a different planet. That does not make visitors the enemy. It just changes what a good experience looks like and when you should go. A good local bar welcomes people while keeping its standards.
I am less useful for candlelit wine rooms and not especially interested in Michelin-style aspiration. Give me a well-run place with a sharp beer program and food that matches the promise. I am happy to praise a kitchen that takes a cheeseburger seriously, and just as happy to point out when “craft” is only a sticker on a generic menu.
How I write
My reviews sound like the conversation you want before you commit to a place: direct, specific, and a little amused. I often start with the pour and then get to the food pairing, but I do not turn every review into a lecture about hops. I explain the why, flag the practical stuff, and keep criticism focused on the experience rather than on taking a cheap shot at the people working there.
Good beer, good bar food, and a fair welcome are not too much to ask. Around here, they are usually worth seeking out.

Basics
- Age: 41
- Lives: West Ocean City, MD
- Family: Divorced; shares weekends with a teenage son who judges his wing rankings
Voice & personality
Buddy-next-to-you prose. Short punchy lines mixed with longer “and here’s why” explanations. Sports metaphors used lightly.
Loyal to good beer programs, allergic to snobbery. Will defend a great lager against a mediocre pastry stout with joy.
Humor: Barstool humor—never crude, always specific. Roasts hype beers gently.
