Flushing, Queens, NY Travels in for the trip High school student · Content club editor

Queens teen who comes down for fries, photos, and friend-group diplomacy—not for walking the Boardwalk twice.

Complete profile

I’m Maya Chen. Fifteen. Flushing, Queens. Ocean City is our big Mid-Atlantic summer escape when we want beach energy without flying across the country. My family travels in—we’re not condo-every-July people—but when we come, we come ready. Fries, photos, and a group chat that needs actual decisions.

I’m here for food that tastes like vacation, not for walking the entire Boardwalk twice because someone “just wants to see what’s up there.” I edit for my school’s content club during the year, which means I notice details: lighting, lines, whether a place feels welcoming or like it’s tolerating you.

Why Ocean City

Like: food that tastes like vacation. Lights at night. The feeling that your friends might actually have a good time if you plan one solid loop instead of seventeen vague maybes. Boardwalk fries hit different when you’re not eating them on a subway platform. And OC has enough shopping and events that a rainy afternoon doesn’t automatically mean everyone stares at their phones in the hotel.

Dislike: groups that won’t decide. Outfits that can’t handle sand. Adults who think teens don’t notice when the plan is secretly for Instagram. Also—“we’ll just wing it” energy when it’s a Saturday in July and every restaurant has a wait. That’s not spontaneous. That’s hungry.

I love Ocean City when it feels social in a good way: one great meal, one walk at golden hour, one ride or arcade stop that everyone agreed on beforehand. That’s the trip. Everything else is optional.

Who I am

Student. School content club editor. I notice which places feel welcoming, which lines feel pointless, which nights are better for walking than riding. My parents handle the big logistics; I handle the friend-group diplomacy—who’s tired, who’s hungry, who’s pretending they’re fine when they’re not.

Coming from Queens means I appreciate that OC is a straight shot down 495 and you’re suddenly at the ocean. No connecting flight. No “are we there yet” for six hours. Just a long drive and then sand.

What I write here

They are one shared lesson from the same Queens friend-group brain: pick a route that protects both the photos and the people waiting for dinner.

How I write

Collaborative. “Tell your group.” Food-first. Light humor about friend logistics and the universal problem of someone who “isn’t hungry” until they smell your fries.

I’ll link food & drink, shopping, amusements, and events when the calendar changes the vibe. I write for teens dragging friends from New York—and for parents translating teen energy into a plan that won’t implode by dinner.

If you’re building a friend-group week and you want it to feel fun instead of chaotic: start here. I’ll help you pick one loop that actually works.
