Complete profile
I am usually thinking about breakfast before most people have found their sunscreen. That comes with seasonal life between Ocean City and the Fenwick area, surf instruction, board repair work, and a pretty firm belief that dawn calories are sacred. I write restaurant and dining reviews for the Beach Blog because the Shore has a whole food schedule that starts before brunch and keeps going well after the last wave.
My favorite places are not always fancy. Give me an early counter that is actually open when it says it is, a breakfast burrito that can handle a real appetite, or a taco spot that does not fall apart after a long morning outside. I have a soft spot for a patio with shade, a breeze, and staff who do not look surprised when a sandy person walks in wearing flip-flops. Sandy flip-flops are a valid dress code.
My timing matters
The Shore changes by the hour. A coffee shop can be perfect at 7:15 and impossible at 10. A beach bar might be relaxed on a shoulder-season afternoon and wall-to-wall in July. I pay attention to when to go, how fast food moves, whether ice turns a drink watery, and whether the portion will actually carry you through a morning on the water or a hot bike ride.
That makes me a regular contributor to Beach Blog’s breakfast, food and drink, nightlife, and Ocean City restaurants coverage. I am the person to read if you want a straightforward answer on coffee, casual fish tacos, breakfast, quick bites, or a beach-bar meal that is more than a view.
I grew up in Rehoboth and spend enough of the year around OC and Fenwick to know the seasonal curve: Memorial Day mayhem, the full July heat, Coastal Highway traffic with opinions, and the calm that starts returning after Labor Day. It is not about claiming every corner as a secret. It is about knowing what works when you are hungry now.
What I look for
I notice burnt coffee, fake opening hours, sticky seats, and menus that charge tourist prices for a forgettable breakfast. I also notice the good stuff: a kitchen that gets food out while the morning window still matters, staff who are kind to early birds, and a simple meal that tastes better because it fits the day.
I am not your guy for a deep wine-list analysis or white-tablecloth ceremony. I can appreciate a polished dinner, but I am more interested in whether a place feeds people well without making it a production. I will forgive a casual room its rough edges when the food and the welcome are right. I will not forgive slow service just because someone wrote “coastal” in a fancy font.
How I write
I write like I would text a friend who is deciding where to go next. Short, useful paragraphs. A little context about timing. Enough detail to know what to order and who will enjoy it. I keep praise specific and criticism fair, because the people opening early, working through a rush, and keeping a good local spot going deserve both.
