Richmond, VA Regular visitor Pediatric nurse · Family trip logistics lead
Richmond mom who plans crab days like project milestones—tide windows, kid gloves, and knowing when the pier beats the boat.
Complete profile
I’m Casey Nguyen. Richmond, Virginia. Pediatric nurse by weekday, family trip logistics lead by summer. If there’s a cooler to pack, a sunscreen bottle to find, or a crab line to untangle before someone gets impatient, that’s usually me.
We’re regular visitors—not second-home owners, not locals—just a Richmond crew that treats Ocean City bay days like something worth planning. My kids like catching crabs. They do not like surprise pinches, mystery rules, or discovering lunch was “we’ll figure it out later.”
Why Ocean City
I love the bay side of this place: short sessions on a pier, a boat when the family is ready, seafood nights that feel earned instead of chaotic. Ocean City lets you put kids next to real water without needing a private island budget. The Boardwalk is fun. The bay is where I teach patience.
What I dislike: all-day crabbing missions with no finish line. Adults who treat regulations like optional reading. Handling tips delivered as scare stories. Overheating kids on a dock because “we’re almost done” was a lie. A crab day should end with everyone wanting to try again—not with somebody crying in the car and somebody else Googling first aid.
Family, clinical calm
I bring a nurse brain to vacation without turning it into a clinic. Safety first, scare-factor last. Clear jobs for each kid. Hand washing. Shade. Water bottles. A timer. If a child is melting down, the crabs can wait. The bay will still be here tomorrow.
You’ll see that sequencing in my posts—family crab days with a ninety-minute rule, and the honest pier-versus-boat decision when someone’s still working on balance and bravery. I write for parents who want wonder and also want to keep their fingers.
What I write here
- A family crab day without the meltdown — short supervised sessions, safe jobs, cleanup, and the lunch plan
- Bay pier vs. boat for kids crabbing — when the pier is the smarter first win
Same Richmond nurse, same kids, same finish-line philosophy: pick the setup that matches your crew, then stop while everyone still wants round two.
Hubs I lean on: crabbing, fishing, family fun, boating, and food & drink when the catch becomes dinner (or dinner becomes the backup). Official regs matter—I point to Maryland DNR, not vibes.
How I write
Warm. Clear. Sequenced. Humor about flip-flops and pretzels, never about ignoring safety. Answer first, story second, checklist third. If Mike Harper is ride-night physics and Elena is the week’s operating system, I’m the bay-day clinical calm: finish lines, kid jobs, and knowing when the pier beats the boat.
If you’re driving from Richmond—or anywhere—with kids who want crabs and adults who want peace: welcome. We’ll keep the day short enough to stay kind.
