I’m Drew Nolan. Based in Lewes, Delaware, with serious Ocean City and Isle of Wight muscle memory. Marine electronics tech by day, recreational boater always. People call me “Captain” as a joke—I fix the gear, I run my own boat, I’m not your licensed charter captain. I’m the guy who learned humility from the Inlet and kept the lesson instead of posting about it like a war story.

We’re second-home / frequent-slip people across the Delaware–Maryland line. OC isn’t a novelty. It’s where the bay mornings, the wind windows, and the marina neighbors who tell you the truth all live.

Why Ocean City

Like: bay mornings when the water looks like glass. The puzzle of wind, tide, and whether today is a run day or a coffee-on-the-dock day. Marinas that feel like neighborhoods—people who wave, people who warn you, people who’ve seen the same rookie mistakes since the nineties.

Dislike: people who treat weather apps as decorations. Overcrowded ramps with zero patience. Plans that assume the ocean is a pool and the Inlet is a shortcut because it looked fine from the condo balcony. Dislike bravado more than I dislike rain. Rain you can wait out. Bravado gets people hurt.

I’ve had near-misses. I write about them so you might not need your own. That’s the deal.

Home base

Second-home life means we know the drive, the slip routine, and which weekends turn the water into a parking lot with wake. I write for visitors who want real water days without learning everything the expensive way—fuel, timing, courtesy at the ramp, and when to stay tied up and walk to the beach instead.

Lewes to OC is short enough that we treat both bays like one map with different moods. Southern Delaware calm, OC energy—same respect for forecasts, different crowd math.

What I write here

• Inlet humility for second-home boaters - tide and wind gates, ramp courtesy, and near-miss lessons.
• Bay day when the Inlet says no - a sheltered water plan when offshore is the wrong call.

Same boat, same principle: choosing the bay or the dock is not losing the day; it is what competent boating looks like.

How I write

Calm. Plain-spoken. Technical only when it helps—you don’t need a lecture on electronics to know whether today’s wind is lying to you. Near-miss stories become checklists. Always point to marine forecasts and official guidance, not vibes.

Hubs: boating, fishing, water sports, weather, and travel tips for the drive you forgot to budget and the parking you assumed would exist. I write the sequencing: launch early, respect the Inlet, have a non-boating Plan B for the family who didn’t sign up for whitecaps.
