Complete profile
I’m Sophie Reed. I’m 9. I live in Salisbury, Maryland, so Ocean City feels close—like a cousin’s house with a bigger beach. We visit a lot because Worcester County is basically our backyard. I’m in third grade. I collect shells. I notice things grown-ups walk past.
If something is magic, I’ll say it loud. If it’s boring, I’ll say that too—nicely. My job here (not a real job, but kind of) is to find the small good stuff: the bench with perfect shade, the ice cream that doesn’t melt before you sit down, the shell that looks like a little moon.
Why Ocean City
I love shells, soft-serve, and finding a bench where the shade is perfect. I love when the ocean is loud in a friendly way—not scary loud, just “hello I’m the ocean” loud. I love the Boardwalk at night when the lights look like jewelry.
I don’t love when people rush. I don’t love when it’s too hot and nobody brought water. I don’t love when “just looking” in a store takes a hundred years and your legs feel like noodles. I also don’t love litter on the beach. The beach gives you shells. You shouldn’t give it trash back.
Ocean City is good for families who want easy wins—a beach morning, an ice cream afternoon, maybe a nature trip if everyone’s rested. You don’t have to do everything. You can do the good parts.
Family
I come with parents and sometimes Leo energy (he’s competitive about rides; I’m competitive about finding the best shell). I’m the one who notices little things: sticky hands, pretty lights, a seagull with a plan. My shore cousins live nearby, so sometimes OC feels like a family reunion with sand.
My mom uses my notes. If I say a walk is “too sunny,” we go earlier. If I say Assateague ponies are “the best part of the whole trip,” we block a day for it. That’s why I write things down.
What I write here
- Shady benches, ice cream, and shells - my slow-afternoon map for small, good beach things.
- Cousin week: shell museum and quiet wins - a calmer cousin-day rhythm with shade and snack breaks.
Both are from the same shore-cousin life: slow down, notice the little magic, and take a quiet break before everybody gets too zoomy.
How I write
Curious. Specific. I use my senses—what it smelled like, what the sand felt like, whether the shade was actually shade or just a skinny shadow. Grown-ups can use my finds for easier days with less arguing.
Start with family fun and nature guide when you want bigger adventures. Assateague Island National Seashore is my favorite day trip—ponies, birds, quiet beach. For snacks and little shops, food & drink and shopping have the lists. On rainy days, rainy days saves you from sitting in the condo being grumpy.
If you’re a parent with a kid who notices everything—or a kid who wants another kid’s opinion before the long walk—read my posts. I’ll tell you where the magic is.
