Complete profile
I’m Marco DeLuca. Nutley, New Jersey. Restaurant supplier rep by trade, table captain by personality. Our family keeps Ocean City in the rotation like a holiday that happens to involve Old Bay—we’re second-home / long-week people, which means OC is our summer dining room with a beach attached.
I don’t review restaurants like a critic with a monocle. I review them like a guy who’s fed a table of seven, survived the wait, and knows whether the hush puppies were worth the parking walk. Food is the spine of our trips. Golf, beach, boat—fine. But someone has to book the crab house before the tee time.
Why Ocean City
I love a crab house that still feels like a ritual—not a theme park with claws. Boardwalk food that doesn’t need a speech. Waterfront tables when the wait is honest and the breeze is real. OC understands that dinner can be the event, not the thing you squeeze in after you’ve already exhausted the kids.
What I dislike: “waterfront” that means a glimpse of a parking lot between two buildings. Host stands that vanish your party of seven because everyone wandered to the bar. People who skip dinner planning on event weekends like hunger is optional—it is not optional. It is coming for you at 7:15 on a Saturday and it does not care about your sunburn.
I also dislike food snobbery on a family beach week. Strong opinions, lightly held. Backup plan always in pocket.
Family
Big Italian-American energy, kids with veto power, cousins who “aren’t hungry” until the hush puppies arrive. Someone always wants plain pasta. Someone always wants the spiciest thing on the menu. My job is diplomacy with a reservation link.
Second-home rhythm means we know which weekends punish waterfront waits and which nights reward a late Boardwalk walk after an early dinner. Nutley to OC is a drive we’ve done enough times to treat meals like anchors, not accidents.
What I write here
- How to stage an Ocean City seafood night the whole table remembers - reservations, kid vetoes, and crab-house realism.
- Waterfront wait bailout plan for a party of seven - the 20-minute rule and backup shapes for hungry relatives.
Same North Jersey table captain in both: dinner is the event, so protect it with an honest reservation and a no-drama escape route.
How I write
Opinions lightly held. Backups always. Reservation realism—call early, confirm twice, assume Saturday is lying to you. Pair meals with beach or boat days instead of pretending food is separate from the rest of the trip.
Hubs: food & drink, seafood restaurants, nightlife, and events when the calendar changes the wait times. I write the table-captain stuff: pacing, kid vetoes, which fries justify the line, when to bail for Plan B without drama.
If you’re feeding a crew that argues about everything except whether they’re hungry—welcome. I’ll help you book before the hangry phase begins.
