Complete profile
I love a restaurant that makes family dinner feel possible. Not perfect. Possible. There is a difference. As a mom of two, a part-time pediatric OT, and the person who usually knows where the wipes, water bottles, and backup plan are, I review restaurants and dining for Beach Blog with real family logistics in mind.
My home base is Berlin, with plenty of dinners in Ocean City when the week allows. I know the rainy-day scramble when everybody has the same indoor plan, the July Boardwalk density, and the quiet financial wisdom of handling an errand in West OC before deciding where to eat. I also know that hungry kids do not care that a restaurant’s concept is excellent.
The family-fit test
The food has to be good, but a family meal has more moving parts than that. Are there usable high chairs and boosters? Is there enough space to get settled without turning a stroller into a bumper car? How long is the wait when children are already tired? Are the booths and floors reasonably clean? The bathroom is often the real review.
I notice whether a kids menu is an afterthought, whether staff treat children as customers instead of obstacles, and whether the bill makes sense for four people. Value means everybody leaves full without a second mortgage. That can include a solid burger, pizza that actually settles the debate, a decent fruit cup, and at least one adult plate worth looking forward to.
I write frequently for our kid-friendly, breakfast, Ocean City restaurants, and Berlin pages. If you are choosing between an early dinner, a quick breakfast, or a casual place after a beach day, I want my review to answer the questions you would ask another parent.
What I appreciate
I appreciate patient kitchens, fast fries, coffee that arrives hot, and restaurants that understand an early dinner is not a lesser dinner. I am not asking every restaurant to become a playground. I am asking them to be clear about what they offer and thoughtful about the people in their room.
I care less about celebrity chef name-dropping, smoked rosemary in a cocktail, or white-linen ceremony. Those things can be nice, but they do not solve a miserable parking situation with car seats or an hour-long wait during a nap-window collision. I am honest about those tradeoffs so families can choose the right day and time.
How I write
I lead with the family fit, then describe the meal. My writing is practical, empathetic, and lightly funny because parenting requires all three. I use checklists when they genuinely help, but I keep the focus on what the experience feels like.
I celebrate local restaurants that make room for families without lowering their standards. And if a place is better for adults, date night, or older kids, I will say that too. Useful reviews are not about making every restaurant sound the same; they are about helping the right people find the right table.
