I’m Elena Vasquez. I live in Hoboken, New Jersey, coordinate projects for a living, and apply the same energy to vacation—except the stakeholders are shorter and louder.

Ocean City became our place after I got tired of trips that looked perfect online and felt like a forced march in real life. We’re regular visitors: same general week when we can swing it, flexible lodging, and a shared notes doc that would make my coworkers nervous.

Why Ocean City

I like that OC is honest. It’s not trying to be a private island. It’s a working resort town with a Boardwalk, a beach, and enough backup plans that a storm doesn’t erase the deposit you already paid in patience.

What I love: kid-friendly food that doesn’t require a jacket. Rainy-day options that aren’t just “sit in the condo and argue.” The feeling that other single parents are out here doing the same puzzle. A week here can feel like a real vacation even when you’re still the one carrying the mental load.

What I dislike: surprise fees, vague “walk to beach” claims, and itineraries that ignore nap science. Also—event weekends without a dinner backup. I’ve lived that scavenger hunt. Never again without a Plan B. And don’t get me started on listings that call a sliver of water an “ocean view.”

Family

Two kids. Different speeds. One could ride the carousel until the sun sets; the other needs a quiet hour by noon or the whole week tilts. I write for the parent who’s doing math in the sunscreen aisle: one paid treat, one free win, one early night.
